Global 400 Retail Watch List

Rating the Retailer Competitive Advantage by Deconstructing the Business Model for Intrinsic Value & Systemic Risk

Advantage

The Global 400 Watch List (G-400) is a unique structural index that assesses the competitive advantage of the retailer’s business model and real estate platform through a rating system that transcends the speculative valuations and bubble dynamics in the asset pricing of capital markets under the past 20 years of monetary policy and financial dislocation.

Through a series of alternative ratings in the development of five retail and real estate indexes, ranging from the G-400 Composite Index to a series of derivatives, the business models and real estate platforms are deconstructed to identify where value is being created that is regenerative to all facets of the operating and real estate platform, and where risk is concentrated to determine the degree of stress and structural impairment that cannot be rescued by mere capital fixes.

The comprehensive competitive valuations of the G-400 go beyond the limiting debt default credit ratings of the NRSROs that exclude real estate analytics in the transition of the bricks & mortar space to create defensive businesses and economic moats that are self-funding and sustainable.

“Position: No one knows what normal is today. Nor what normal will look like once the economy truly recovers in two or ten years time. But retailers are not leaving anything to chance let alone the policymakers who have changed economic normal from upward mobility to downward over the past thirty years. In the yearend issue of MAXIM, 24 New Normals have been identified sourced from the strategies underway by the 455+ retailers on the Global 400 Retail Watch List announced on earnings call in 2011 and another 400 tracked for store initiatives on the MAX-SI Spatial Index.
